SportzCare ACT Golf Day -
December 2009
The 2009 SportzCare ACT Golf
Day has been run and won with
a good day had by all who
attended. We were encouraged
to have raised over $1,000
from the golf on the day and
follow up auctions. This will
help pay for services offered
by SportzCare, like the Suicide
Awareness course run at Queanbeyan
Race Course earlier this year
(see below)
Thanks
to all who participated on
the day and for our hosts,
Gungahlin Lakes golf course
- we hope to do it again in
2010!
SportzCare
ACT would also like to thank
those who generously donated
items for prizes and auctions
on the day - including Thoroughbred
Park, the Canberra Raiders,
ACT Brumbies and Nick Olive
Racing.
Suicide
Awareness - Queanbeyan Race
Course
In late 2009 SportzCare ACT
was able to provide a seminar
on suicide awareness for members
and other guests of the Queanbeyan
Race Course. This was a valuable
time for all who made it along
to help get better equipped
for recognising and dealing
with signs of suicide.
Thanks
to Queanbeyan Race Course
for providing the venue and
food for the day - and thanks
to all those who made it along
to such an important session.
Life
Skills Seminar - November
2008
SportzCare ACT has been at
it again... Another seminar
was offered to a local sporting
community recently to help
equip them for the future.
This course was a broad Life
Skills seminar; covering off
the topics of Relationships,
Alcohol Education, Money Management,
Professionalism and the Spiritual
dimension.
With
the support of our sponsor,
Thoroughbred Park, the event
was held at the racecourse
and provided some valuable
insights for all who attended.
A snapshot of the day can
be seen below, with guest
presenter Phil Small giving
some media tips. Many thanks
to all our presenters...

- Practical Training in Suicide
Intervention:
A new chapter was written
in the history of SportzCare
as people gathered to take
part in a practical training
seminar. Titled, 'Suicide
Awareness For Everyone', the
morning was aimed at giving
people an awareness of issues
surrounding suicide and some
critical steps to assist in
times of need.
A
number of people from the
local sports community attended
the event and gained valuable
training. SportzCare ACT hopes
to run a number of similar
seminars over time that will
provide a range of practical
skills. Our thanks to the
OzHelp Foundation for running
the training... it's great
there are now more people
equipped in Canberra sport
to help deal with this great
need.
2008
Promotional Campaign:
To
launch 2008, SportzCare ACT
commissioned the printing
of more than 5,000 promotional
brochures! These materials
have now been printed and
are ready for distribution.
Over the coming months, we
hope to get around to many
sporting organisations/teams
around the ACT to hand out
some brochures. You may also
spot them in sports clubs
or other places around Canberra.
If you could arrange a time
for us to come and present
SportzCare's services and
give out brochures to your
team/club, we'd
love to hear from you!
